Description

A guided tour to discover the Abbey of Abondance, followed by a team game to immerse yourself in the world of stonecutters.
First, the mediator introduces the whole class to the site. The different areas (church, cloister and monastery) are identified using the site model. A quick tour highlights the abbey's special features: architecture, 15th-century murals, monastic life (daytime, living quarters, community life, etc.). Teams of 4 or 5 students are then formed. The rules are explained, and teams are given a participation kit. Each team then embarks on its quest: to help a stonemason determine the most suitable material for creating a fountain for the cloister. The rock must have the right properties (cold resistance, waterproofing, etc.), fit in with the existing building and be a local resource. At the end of the activity, all the teams will be brought together to discuss their discoveries and review the different materials encountered (samples available). *Free for accompanying adults - accompanying adults required: for cycle 3, one adult per team of 4/5 pupils; for cycle 4, one adult per 10/12 pupils - total duration: approx. 3h Student worksheets provided during the visit, along with paper, pencils, erasers and kit. What to bring: weather-appropriate clothing (part of the activity takes place outdoors).
